Chairman of the Board’s Message

It would be immodest of me to say that I have the pleasure of living in the most dynamic city in the San Francisco Bay Area, but that’s not just my opinion. Emeryville continues to attract international media attention from all corners of the world as just that.

I now have the additional honor - and responsibility - as serving as Chairman of Emeryville’s leading business and community leadership association, our Chamber of Commerce. We’re proud of the organization we’ve built, and are continuing to build: one that matches the excitement and energy of our special community. 

When I think we’ve reached our "peak" I’m reminded by Bob Canter, our President & CEO, and other Board members that life is a journey, not a destination. We must continually strive to improve. As one of our prominent local business leaders once said, "We have no choice but to get better." How true.

It IS getting better in Emeryville, as you’ll readily see when you visit our 1.2 square mile world of business, arts, recreation, shopping, dining, cinema, and residential living. It’s all here! California at its best - and getting better.

By profession, I am a residential realtor, and although our resident population remains small, it is growing. People are discovering Emeryville, and for good reason: the wonderful selection of urban-style residences, high quality of municipal services, low crime rate, arts and culture all contribute to attracting new residents to our town. And it doesn’t hurt to have world-class companies - Pixar, Chiron, Peet’s Coffee, Semifreddi’s Bakery, Ex’pression College for Digital Arts, Trader Vic’s, IKEA, and Bay Street, among many others, all generously contributing to our schools and other non-profit and community-based institutions.
