MISSION: The purpose of the Emeryville Chamber of
Commerce Business/Education Committee is to serve as a vehicle
to develop a quality workforce in Emeryville and the surrounding
area by helping to improve the quality of education offered to
students in the EUSD. The Committee accomplishes this task by:

Serving as a
conduit through which Emeryville Chamber members can
participate in programs and activities that help EUSD
students;
-
Promoting events,
conferences, and other activities that help highlight issues
facing the EUSD and raise the level of awareness of issues
facing the EUSD.
-
Identifying unmet
needs of the EUSD and galvanizing business support to meet
those needs.
-
Coordinating
activities with the EEF and other organizations that support
the EUSD.
-
Reviewing
legislative proposals that impact the EUSD and recommending
policy positions to the Board of Directors for Chamber action.
-
Identifying needs
of EUSD graduates in obtaining success in higher education by
building relationship with the Peralta Community College
system, U.C., and other local institutions of higher learning;

Serving as a
unified business voice on education issues.
OBJECTIVES:
The Business/Education Committee will conduct the following
programs, events, and activities in support of the Committee’s
Mission:

Hold an annual
“Spotlight on Education” forum focusing on issues facing the
EUSD.
-
Coordinate events
to recognize EUSD teachers and staff, including but not
limited to a Teacher Appreciation event [Mixer, luncheon];
Teacher Discount Shopping Day, or other program.

Identify a
specific capital need of the EUSD and raise funds for this
purpose. Examples could include a computer donation program;
library book fund, sports equipment fund, etc.

“Adopt a School”
and “Adopt a Classroom” programs
-
Loaned Business
Executive/”Business Comes to School” Program. [Business
Coaching/Visiting Professional”]
STRUCTURE:
Committee membership is open to any member in good standing of
the Emeryville Chamber of Commerce. Other members would include
a representative from the EUSD, and regional and State elected
offices.. The Committee will meet monthly or as needed in a
designated location in Emeryville.
